About Brooks Kimmis

Brooks Kimmis was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. In high school he developed a passion for medicine after shadowing at a local hospital and participating in leadership and volunteer programs. After high school, he attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine in the combined BA/MD program in which he completed both his undergraduate and medical school training in 6 years. He then stayed at UMKC for a preliminary year in Internal Medicine. During medical school he held leadership positions, received awards and scholarships, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

His dermatology training took place at the University of Kansas Medical Center, a tertiary care center that serves a large urban and rural population. During residency, he was exposed to a wide range of dermatologic conditions and became passionate about complex medical dermatology. He served in multiple leadership roles, including representative to the residency council, chief resident, and didactics scheduler, among others. His interest in lifelong learning led him to give lectures, publish papers, and work as a resident editor for the dermatology education website DermQBank.

Dr. Kimmis’ practice focuses on general adult and pediatric dermatology with an emphasis on complex medical dermatology, biologics, and emerging therapies. He treats a wide variety of skin conditions including skin cancers, psoriasis, eczema, acne, rosacea, allergic contact dermatitis, connective tissue and rheumatologic skin conditions, lichen planus, blistering skin disorders, inflammatory skin disorders, cutaneous lymphomas, and many others. His approach is to address each patient in an individualized way that incorporates the whole person and encompasses the most up-to-date and evidence-based practice. It is his goal to build long-lasting relationships with his patients and to see them back for many years to come.

When he is not working, he enjoys playing tennis, watching and discussing film, reading, hiking, traveling, volunteering, and spending time with his partner, pets, family, and friends.
