No one is perfect in life or on the quest for clear skin! This means that there are probably one or two mistakes you might be making standing in the way of you and your ideal complexion.
Here are five common ones to stop making immediately to ensure that your skin is healthy and radiant.
In one recent study, 11 makeup brushes were tested. The result showed that they harbored more germs than the average toilet seat! Since they come into contact with our skin (and the bacteria transferred can lead to anything from breakouts to infections) any beauty tools – from reusable razors to jade rollers to makeup sponges – should be washed and sanitized after each use.
Instagram filters and modern pressures can lead us to think that our skin needs to be flawless. This can lead many people to pick at the skin on their faces in the pursuit of removing any perceived imperfection. For some, it can be caused by a condition known as dermatillomania. Picking can transfer germs onto your skin and also lead to scarring.
We all make mistakes. And one common skincare one that many women are guilty of committing at one time or another is going to bed without removing their makeup. This can lead to a bacteria buildup on your skin which can result in a breakout, clogged pores, and blackheads. Do this too often and it can even lead to premature signs of aging.
Our skin has a protective barrier that is responsible for keeping it healthy. Too much washing and exfoliating your face can lead to this barrier becoming disrupted and compromised in its functioning. Use a cleanser that suits your skin type twice a day, exfoliate once or twice a week, and keep an eye out for any signs of irritation.
The biggest skincare mistake that people are guilty of is not wearing – and reapplying – sunscreen on a daily basis. And this means every day and not just in summer or when you are heading outdoors. This is the best defence against skin cancer as well as hyperpigmentation and signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles.
